Hi all.
I need some help for the file server.
I want to add a file server but i dont know what exactly to ask from the datacenter.
What os? centos7 or 6 x64 is ok?
Need raid or not?
I need all the storage by the way.
So.
If someone know let tell me what exactly i have to ask from datacenter.
Thanks a lot.
XFileSharing Pro - File server what exactly? (urgent)
Its about your needs.
I suggest:
QuadCore CPU (FileServers dont need much CPU power)
16GB RAM
Min 24TB Disk
1Gbit Connection
My Disk Suggestion;
Minimum 6x4TB SATA Disk + 1x OS Disk
Optimal 12x4TB SATA Disk + 1x SSD OS Disk
I use mostly Software RAID5 with monitoring SmartData daily.
But if you have a offer with hardware RAID5, is not a problem with some optimizing.
About OS:

I have been using XFS for more than 2 years and agree that NOT using a large server to serve files has advantages - However have a file server like say 4x4TB drives and only filling it to 50 to 75% is also a good idea because many hosting facilities will sell you a server and INCLUDE bandwidth.
So serving too many files from one server has other disadvantages apart from the I/O bottle neck.
I have a LOT of file servers with my current host in the above configuration!

So in case you wish to know price it is from 110e for 4x4TB drives - 16G ram and 100TB data included for each machine (Maybe I can get you slight discount since I have a lot of servers with the host). Or maybe you will get your own discount if you have a lot of servers - If this is an interest to you please let me know how I can contact you and we can discuss further.hostlife wrote:@Manders, if you don't mind, please let me know which hosting service you are using & how much you are paying?
