Hi,
I am thinking of setting up a file sharing site since I own downloading.co and wanted to have an honest opinion from people that run one.
I don't mind investing to get the site started, but was wondering if the business model even works (ie. do I make money at the end of the month).
I currently see the following main problems: illegal file uploads, high hosting cost
Do you think limiting the server to a few uploaders would help limit the problem? Let's say XDA.

36 TB Storage at 310€ sounds pretty cheap, can you tell me where to get that?ufkabakan wrote:Main problem find a good Payment Processor, low commissions and accept FileHosting payment with this high Risk status.
Hosting cost is not a big deal, if you have good sales.
36TB Storage with 100TB BW cost only 310€ in Europa.
Thanks & Regards
Thanks! What do you pay to people for 1,000 downloads now?ufkabakan wrote:Main problem find a good Payment Processor, low commissions and accept FileHosting payment with this high Risk status.

I cant understand your question.
He is asking which package at Leaseweb you're using. I'm running servers at leaseweb, too. I have the 100TB Package Servers, so I have 200 TB Bandwith with 10 TB Space at 340 €, so I'm wondering how you can run 100 TB BW with 36 TB Storage at only 310€. Please tell us which package.Internet Consumer wrote:Oky now i want to know what hosting your using?armin wrote:36 TB Storage at 310€ sounds pretty cheap, can you tell me where to get that?ufkabakan wrote:Main problem find a good Payment Processor, low commissions and accept FileHosting payment with this high Risk status.

How do you monetize your site? Can you post a link or is this against the rules?ufkabakan wrote:Do you mean PPD Price?procyon82 wrote:Thanks! Some are concetrating on sales, some only adv. The best businessplan would be like ul and mu together, but this is the hardest thing to do. You have to make uploaders and downloaders same happy. ul example is good for uploaders but not so much for downloaders except they buy premium accs and there they are concetrating, that's why they have only 1 popoup. How do you monetize your site? also there are much better hosts than leaseweb. You just have to search. I can get 50% cheaper than leaseweb & unlimited bandwidth
Thanks. What can you expect in eCPM for ads? Does $0.10 eCPM sound realistic? I prefer to be conservative.
What about banning countries for which advertising networks don't pay for?
Ie. don't let users from country X download your files since you don't get paid.
Is that something that can be done with Xfs?

0,10$ doesn't sound realistic for me for a small filehost. If you grow, you can go on better adv networks like adperium, there it's realistic. They take only 10k alexa sites like I heard. The problem is most users that use filehost, use also ad blocker. On my IT forum nearly 50% use adblocker. I would not ban anyone, this gives bad reputation. It depends on you what to do with this people that just take something, but don't want to help filehost. You must make them pay, or make ban them, or give them limited service....Also note that uploaders will get funds for useless downloads. Try to to make something against this.
