HelpMoving Entire website to another server without Downtime

#1 Postby prouser21 » Nov 18, 2012 1:22 am

Is there a step by step guide on how to move the entire website to another
server. You see my server provider is closing his company and i need to migrate to another server without downtime. I cannot afford more downtime.

That is pretty easy. Try to search in forum how to do that.

without downtime it will never be possible because your DNS settings must be updated also and sometimes this takes up to 48h!

Is it really impossible without downtime? because my old server is not yet offline. im just moving to another server. and when i move the entire server thats the time im going to change the dns and while propogating my user can still connect to the old server.

nothing is impossible, but you don't have a clue what your doing;

as others suggested you should hire a system admin to do the migration, if you want no downtime

When it comes to dns, you can easy swap this without downtime using the rigth services instead of the cheap crap :)

Or you could used Cloudflare for free. Update your name server after you're moved all of the files into the new name server.

during the propagation, once it completed. If during the propagation users did add some files to the old server will eventually cause them loosing their data once you fully propagated to the new dns.

just replace your templates folder with the old one you had.
and make sure you're on the right design: http://domain.com/?design=0
