you might want to get 1 server for the site itself and the first files...when you reach the limit of that server, you add another server (you dont move anything) you just add another.

you can do like i do
but it going be a bit more expensiver then other ways

i got 1 webserver for all my sites (only sites :P)

and 1 file server for all files

total costs ??
400$ for both servers

the good thing is that the file server keeps his maximum speed , as only files are stored on it
and your website can handle all the traffic with out a problem , as they only vieuw pages on it

i started that way because i dont want to upgrade after 2 months , so i spend a bit more but i can keep this setup for a long time (atleast long enouf) and can provide a Good Quality because the servers doesnt go down

but that is just me , probaly there are others to who do it that way

i got the option to spend a bit more , so i can keep good Quality and that gives more profit in the end , but more expensive in the beginning

Hey PowerChaos,

So it means everything is done on MAIN server. and 2nd servers is for files only ?

My set up is

SERVER 1 = Main Site + Files ( now read-only mode )
SERVER 2 = Files ( uploads go here )

Problem is Server1 has 100MBPS port and is always a MAX speed
( slow downloads for new users )

Server 2 has 100MBPS too but still new

basicly yes

let me give a example

my users go to boosterking.com
they can upload files (will upload directly to my second server)
they can browse files (mysql database)

so it only generate pagevieuws

let me show you my stats of traffic that i used on my main server
as you know that i use a average of 60GB traffic per day on my download server

this month (7 days) = 48.91 mb traffic used
i got a average of 130 downloads a day (files of 700mb and bigger ,as they can upload up to 10GB and download up to 10GB :P)

here is a copy past of my awstats to show what i mean (more accurate)

Viewed traffic *
5365 (unic users)
8408 (1.56 visits/visitor)
158623 (18.86 Pages/Visit)
217381 (25.85 Hits/Visit)
1.90 GB (237.22 KB/Visit)

goes only over may (01/05/2010 -> 31/05/2010)

as you can see , 2GB traffic is not mutch on a month

so if the settings are good then your server need to be able to handle it on fullspeed

as the downloads are directly taken from my other server (subdomain) does it not go pass my main server and does it have full download speed

but i use main server only for my website , not for files

if you put files on Read Only , then it means that it can be downloaded to (thats reading)

but that means that it doesnt get stored on that server anymore

the thing i can suggest to do is copy it over to your other server , then you will see a big incrasing of your speed (reason i do it)

to explain my text in short

* 1 server is only main site (only webiste )
* 1 server are only files (download/upload)
*traffic from main server stays low as no downloads are on main server
*traffic on download server is high and still full speed as apache doesnt need to take ram/cpu because no pagevieuws on it

hopely this post helped you :D

Thank you so much for your time.

This makes a lot of sense.

One more question. Do i need SibSoft's Nginx mod for all servers ?

My both servers use "direct links" not "dl.cgi"

But the main server port is always at max speed and sometimes i get "GATEWAY TIME OUT ERROR" if the port is full speed.

My host can offer me 250MBPS but it is toooooo expensive!!

Thank you again

in case you readed it wrong

that goes only over the main server (website only)

the download server use 60GB a day

its to show what difference it can make in speed :D

then you answer your question FZee

i dont know , i use apache as it works fine for me

and i suggest to use dl.cgi for non premium members

as the gateway error just means that you are on your maximum traffic speed (capped by provider) and that it cant go higher then it is (to many conections)

apache works with a queue (waiting list) so you wont get that error , only a slow site if the settings are wrong (should be)

so the only thing you can do is limit the dowload speed to prevent those errors and doing some tweak settings in apache/ngix so it doesnt get a time out on max conections

anyway , if intrested then i can offer you some nice stuff but to prevent spam i like to ask what you need and what the price you got so i can make a offer over it ^^ (if intrested)
