Multiple Small Files or One Large File, Effects on Server

#1 Postby beeman1212 » Mar 15, 2012 2:58 pm

I really appreciate how active this community is, and I'd just like to ask. I noticed many filehosts limit members from uploading large files like 5-9gb single files and I was wondering what the main purpose was?

My main concern is do these large files slow down the server more than multiple small files because I plan on putting a 10GB limit for premium users but I want to know if there are any negative effects to the server compared to multiple small files.

Thank you!

Actually, I can upload files larger than 5gb with no problem.

I just want to know the effects it has on server resources when there are many files that are larger than 5gb and are being downloaded versus smaller split files being downloaded.
