I messed up, backup

#1 Postby xandor » Apr 28, 2012 3:07 pm

I was gonna update ubuntu version and got the message about GRUB cant update and if I continue server might not start properly.
Pressed no but got back to that message so I pressed yes... and ofcourse server stopped working.

I can access the server with rescue mode GRML.
The problem is, I cant find www folder. Is everything gone or is it possible to find it somewhere?

I only had <500 GB of data, so not a extreme issue, but still bad. (should have backed up before or shouldnt have updated at all...)

try to edit your grub.conf under rescue mode, change it back to original version

you have to mount your harddrive(s) partitions first
fdisk -l (find your partition, for example md1)
mount /dev/md1 /home/makesometempfolder
edit /home/makesometempfolder/etc/grub/grub.conf
start in hdd mode
