How Should I partition my drives?

#1 Postby mubin » Sep 24, 2012 7:51 pm

I have 12 x 2tb drives.

How should I do this? Should I use 5gb for the OS and the rest for storage? Throw your suggestions on what you think would be the best setup for me.

I will ask before some information,
What is your Server Spec?
What is your Server cost with BW?
What is your Raid Setup? (0/1/10/5/50/60/100? Strip Size?)
What is your Hardware Raid Card?

5GB is not enough for OS
I suggest 50GB for OS, other part can store files

I have some servers with 12x2 TB Disk.
Main server hardware and Hardware Raid card type/model is very important on your Disk IO performance.

If you can split your OS driver and StorageDriver for more performance.
Your Main CPU and Controller is good. For my exprince HP P4XX > Dell H7XX

Looks your server from Leaseweb/reseller.
Can you tell me cost of this server?
I have before smillar server with a bit more hardware (2x CPU, 32GB Ram) + unmetered dedicated, 1Gbit guarantiy speed 1100€

How should I split the OS driver and Storage Driver? How much each space?

Depends on what you want to privilege: performance or space ?

For max performance: Raid 10

For space (and even performance) : Raid 5/6

With this very advanced hardware raid controller you can have two disks with Raid 1 for Os (but is a waste of space), the other remaining ten drives with the raid level you want.

And yes, this seems a Leaseweb server config.
