Server Setup okay? (Help)

#1 Postby system82 » Oct 08, 2012 10:33 am

Good Day,
i am planning to start soon a video streaming host, therefore i need the right Servers.

Which plans should i buy and would be okay for start?

Plan1:
HP i7-2600 3.4 GHz
16GB Ram
2x3 TB SATA3
Port: 1gbs
Bandwith: 1 Gbps Best Effort Unlimited Traffic
Raid: ?

Plan2:
Xeon E3-1240 @ 3.30 GHz
16 GB ECC
4 x 3TB SATA3 7.2 rpm +
12 x 600 GB SAS 15k rpm Enterprise Dual Port Drives
Port:10 Gbps standard
Bandwith:None (private network only)

Pls help me to choose a good Plan, the Plan 2 is my favourite but very expensive to Plan1.

If i take Plan1 i can buy 3x Plan1 instead 1x Plan2.

regards

Do you know what is this?
You cant use this server with this bandwith for any out going to internet usage. This server can connect only on a local another server on same DC.

Thx for the quick answers. Which Raid should i use?

And would be 4 Servers like Plan1 enough for the start of video streaming host? It would get a lot of Traffic.

If you are planning to have a high traffic video host, those servers won't do because you will not be able to handle the traffic/conversion/uploads.

Here is my set up for 100k+ daily uniques (I already upgraded to a 2gbps port because the 1gbps already maxed)

2 x INTEL Xeon E5-2620 (12 Cores/24 Threads)
3ware 9750-4I raid controller
RAID 10 Configuration
24 x 2TB HDDs - (40% Capacity already)
96 GB RAM DDR3
with unmetered traffic on a 2Gbps port

My servers are actually out of a private DC. I know that leaseweb had 24 x 2TB drives in a custom built server.

I will try to find out from my guys if they are willing to take in clients, and I will let you know.

Where are you buying your servers from may I ask? and how much is this?
Also the bandwidth seems pretty odd to me, I am only gonna use "File Server [Dual Core ATOM 1.6Ghz, 4GB RAM, 1.5TBx2 Raid 1, 100Mbps Connection] = Every Month $133" For now and I am gonna be doing video streaming as well but for the amount of users I will start off with it is perfect.

Your CPU is a bit too high end unless your wanting to encode/convert the files on that server but other than that fine except your bandwidth seems a bit dodgy.
