Raid Configuration

#1 Postby speakerbox » Jan 21, 2011 4:46 pm

Hello,

I am in the process of purchasing some servers and I have a quick question regarding a raided disk configuration.

I want to push as much data as possible with these servers - would a Raid 10 configuration be that much more efficient at data transfer then a raid 1 configuration? Also, how much better would a raid 10 configuration be when there's hundreds of requests coming in.

I just want to know what works best and if there's that much more of an advantage to having a raid 10 set-up.

Your input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

What filesizes do you got?

Max speed per server? 1Gbit or 10Gbit?

How many disks will youhave on Raid10? minimum is 4

Hello,

These servers will have 1gbps dedicated ports. Each box will have four 2TB hard-drives. In terms of file size they range anywhere from 45MB's to 600MB's in size.

Please let me know what your thoughts are.
Thanks!

raid10 with 4x2TB should handle 1Gbit at those filesizes.
Nginx is also needed.

What ISP are you using?

So long got Nginx :)

Email me for msn if you want to talk. No strings attached.

go with 8x1TB instead of 4x2TB if possible , as more drives is always better

i have seen 4x2TB raid10 bottleneck at 500mbps with high random io
