Some upload don't generate a divx player

#1 Postby technoind » Jan 26, 2010 9:56 am

I've noticed that many uploads, especially under 200mb in size don't generate a divx player, instead a direct link is generated. (even though I have selected the direct links in admin panel they never show up on any download page.) - but they do when the divx player isnt generated. ?

has anyone experienced this issue?

thanks

Are you sure these videos have divx/xvid codec? Cause I think we're not showing divx web player for these ones only.

VLC player tells me the codecs are:

Stream 1: H264 and
Stream 2 : mpga

Is this whats causing the divx player not being generated?

Its still an avi file as I mentioned above.

Thanks

it's a good thing that it doesn't show the player for that filetype
the divx webplayer can't play h264 video in an avi container properly, it will play display random colors but no video.

if i am not wrong

you can put differend codecs in a avi container

like mpeg and mpeg2
xvid and divx

and a lot of other things

if i am not wrong
the avi container is a raw format unlike mp4

so basicly a divx player can only play coded with xvid and divx , and not all files are coded with it

its like playing a mp3 file
you got wave or mp3
and wave is raw format but it got differend codecs to code wave
when mp3 got only 2 (a free and a pro )

i know only 1 player who doesnt have a problem with avi files , but thats not a net player (vlc player)

i got even a few avi files that only play sound on wmp and others that doesnt play sound , but they are both a avi file :D

Yes. AVI is container only, it can contain any video/audio cods. Divx web player able to play video encoded with divx/xvid codecs. Video with MP4 codec just won't be played with this player, so we smartly don't even show player.

Actually divx web player recently started support of MKV videos details, but the only MKV I was able to play with is was the example from their own site :)

VLC is the best, it even have plugin for embedding browsers as far as I remember.
