What happen to connections when you start moving a file

#1 Postby venture89 » Sep 18, 2012 4:32 pm

Any one know what happens to people who are already watching a video file when we move that file to a different server?

For example I have a popular file that i want to manually move to a SSD server. Since this file is "popular' it will have lot of users connected to it at the time I hit the "tranfer to server" button.

What happens to the already connected users?
Thanks.

if the video has been fully downloaded, nothing will happen.
if not the user will see the buffering message...

Hmm. I tried this myself (tried moving a file to a new servers while i was watching it) but XFS was not able to move the file. It was just loading but after a while stop and when i check the file from the control panel it is still in the same file server.

I tried this several times while watching the video

Does this mean a file has to be on idle in order for it to be successfully transferred between servers?

I think what you should do is copy the contents over rather than move it. Then give it a few hours and remove the files from the old server.
