Random dissapearing files

#1 Postby Stefanzm » Oct 26, 2012 1:29 pm

Hello to everyone , lately i have an issue which i can not solve or explain exactly.
Basically i have locked one of the servers at Read-Only (using it as storage only). Before few weeks transferred few files on it , and by default did db-to-file and file-to-db checks to see can the server locate all of the files.
So far so good. So i changed the no download delete option to 365 days and left the server as is.
However noticed that few files for some reason start to disappear randomly .
And today decided to do again file-to-db check (went ok without any error or new files added to the "Files Deleted" part in sql. However when i did db-to-file check and it deleted ~20 files (actually 3 files but with 20 symlinks to them).
Now i`m wondering has anyone experienced something like this ?
Without any changes and some original file to disappear even if that server isn't in use (upload/convert that is).

Would appreciate any answers or tips on this.

We had similar complaints from users. i have my download inactive set to 30 days but some user claim some files that got uploaded the yesterday was deleted (more than 20 files from him)

So we have set some record keeping such as upload_date and last_access date on the db. So I can figure if cron.pl delete files by some error.

Any other file hosts have this issue?

Hi Stefanzm,

Have you found an answer to this issue? We have increasing number of users complaining that their files are deleted. They also tell me that these files were popular files with many hits on them.

Please share if you have fixed the issue.
Thanks in advance.

Hello venture89 ,
No i haven't , files still disappear , i`m even considering to make sql backup before doing DB to File consistency check .
My settings at the moment are :
Delete files anonymous = 0 , registered = 365 , premium = 365 .
Wondering to make anonymous 365 too , even that there is no anonymous upload on my servers .

why set to 365? you deleting files which is inactive for 365 days?
if you don't intend to delete any files, setting it to 0 is the best option.

afdah , this 365 is set for a reason.
The question is not do i want to delete inactive files , but why does some files disappear without a reason , or at least to find the reason to can fix it.
Otherwise that setting is usually at 30 , just this time i need it higher to can do some other changes before turning it back to 30.

I also have the anti-dupe system enabled.
@ufkabakan do you have lot of popular files where many duplicates could be added to the system by users? We see that everyday so may be it is causing this issue. I have not tested this thoroughly to give any conclusions here.

@ankurs yes i do have anti-dupe.
For now i`m sure that the main file disappear and the script then remove all links to it (which isnt a bad thing) , however the reason the main file to disappear is unclear .

its true that some files are disappearing. before i flushed the cron.pl i have 7500+ files and after flushing only 7429 files left. So its really gone. I can't tell which files were lost. Ive been manually flushing it so i dont know how many files im losing in the past 2 months.

hope admin can explain this to us.

now imafraid of clearing the cron

Version 2.0 here too . Everything else works perfectly .
@Ryok , the files that are removed after DB-To-File consistency check appear in Xfspro db>FilesDeleted . Without any reason for the deletion , but there you can see which ones has gone as names only .
