XFileSharing Pro - New FileHost Servers Specs!

Hello, i search and read many interested topics in the forum regarding main site and file server specifications.

I plan to run soon a filehost so i will need some help regarding the following specifications.

I plan to get for main site


1] a dedicated from leaseweb
1x Intel Core 2 Duo T5500, 4GB DDR2, 1x160GB SATA2, cPanel/WHM

for 85usd (67 euro)

Now for the FileServer i thinking to get
1] KimFusi 2G with Intel Celeron / Atom 1.20+ GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 1 TB, 100 Mbps Port Unlimited Bandwith*
for 38usd (30 euro)

and add another Kimfusi 2G when needed and continue this way....

or

2] get kimfusi 16G with Intel Core I5 4x 2.66+ GHz,16GB DDR3, 2 TB HDD, 100 Mbps Unlimited Bandwith*
for 83usd (66euro)

Please tell me what you think will be the best combination with those options. Any other servers that you know and at similar prices are also welcomed! Also if you are able to calculate the traffic based on the combination you make will be very helpfull! I will not use nginx for the start.I plan to spent no more than 150euro for the first month. I expect just 20-30 Prenium users the first month and 60 the second month.

Do i need CPanel for backups or a free one like webmin will do the job?

Also how many ips i will need for main site and file server ?

you need protected storage with raid 1 or raid 5 (so no data is lost when harddrive fails) for fileservers, your main server is ok if you make backups

you don't need any control panel for neither your main or your fileserver.

20-30 premium users in the first month with one 100 mbit is a lot, good luck on that

Depends on your skills:

I recommend Directadmin / cpanel for your main web server.
This makes it much easier to work with your site.

When it comes to IPs you only need 1 for your main web and you need 2 per fileserver to use nginx mod on it. If you want nginx to run at port 80.
You can do 1 ip on fileservers, but with nginx mod you need to use another port than 80 and that might give certain users problems.

And fileserver should have a Gbit port. 100Mbit is usually very hard maxed in peak hours. Or you need alot of the 100Mbits to compensate for that.

Again it all depends on your business model.

How many traffic main site can handle before i need to move to a bigger server ? Approximately based on your experience...

That a big waste of money to buy a dedicated server for the main site, specially when your website is new.
I suggest you to buy a shared hosting for the main site, like Godaddy (Search for Coupons on google) or Hostgator, for the file server get Kimsufi 2G, just to start with.

Hey, Kimusfi servers are from France. my website is getting about 10000 visitors a day and I'm still using a share hosting for my main website, by the way my website loads in less then a second for me, and I have 100 ping when I ping my website, it didn't change since I started it.

What I do recommend is to start with Kimsufi 2G, and when your server is starting to run out of space or the bandwidth is on maximum (100Mbit), buy another Kimsufi 2G, and distribute the bandwidth to there also.
Do this until you can't handle a 100Mbit server, this is when you buy a good dedicated server with 1Gbit port, and transfer there the high bandwidth files.

I dont fully agree on going the cheapest way.

If you belive you have a good niche and it will grow fast, go for the quality stuff. Shared hosting is for static pages with certain amounts for traffic.
XFS is a dynamic script that uses alot of database queries.

I belive you have too have a fast site any hour of the day, fully optmized and CDN ready. Optmized database etc. This will make you attract more users. You dont have much control over shared hosting.

When it comes to fileservers, what really matters is the routing. With the cheap servers you might get bottlenecks at peaks. And who want to pay for a premium membership when the speed is low at peak hours?

4 things to think about when it comes to fileservers.
- Will the routing be good enough for the majority of my users?
- Will the network handle peak hours (100mbit, 1Gbit, 10Gbit)
- Will the disks handle I/O during peak hours (Raid0,Raid1,Raid5,Raid6,Raid10)
- Is the files so important that i should do a offsite backup?

Other factors:
What niche?
Where are the majority of the users from.
Size of the files (Small, big, mixed?)
Are the files legit or not? (Most cases not

I was going the cheapest way and fall very fast on my nose.
In my opinion, there is only one way and this is with dedicated server nothing else, all another bring problems only a question of time !
