Hi everyone,
Would be great if some experienced members here can provide input on this subject. In reality how much can a server like below handle with just a 1GigE port?
Dell PE R510
Intel E5504
16GB RAM
12x2000GB HDD
100TB traffic on GigE port
HW Raid 5 or 6 or 10
I'm pretty new to filehosting and I have about 100 users now on my site, my fileserver specs is this
Dell PowerEdge R510
CPU: 2x Intel Quad Core E5504
RAM: 8GB DDR3
HDD: 4x 2TB
HW RAID 5
With this server and about 1TB of files I'm already noticing slow download speeds during peak hours. I have nginx mod installed and capped it at 1.5mb/sec and during peak hours I will get 600-800KB/sec.
What I'm thinking is, what's the point of having such huge storage when my fileserver that is only 1TB filled is already suffering in download speeds?
If you purchased a huge storage server that is 12x2000 and fill it up all the way won't the performance suffer big time?
How does a big storage server handle more than 100 users? Maybe I'm missing something, I hope somebody here can enlighten me.
