Pre-sale questions for anyone who can help!

#1 Postby BigIdeaLabs » May 28, 2009 4:28 am

So i have pretty much decided on buying this script and will probably do so tomorrow. but i have a few questions for anyone who knows. if it means anything to anyone i plan on using a dedicated from burst

1. For starting off i know i need a dedicated server, but what specs? is one core sufficient or does and double or quad provide a huge improvement (i know it does on a desktop PC but for this script does it make a big diff)?

2. how much memory? is 1 gb enough or do i need more? again does going to 2gb make a diff here or no?

3. so lets say i start off with a small HD (maybe 80GB only) is it easy to later add more storage by maybe just adding a second HD or do i need to swap the old HD and move all data? or is it just easiest to add a second server at this point to gain the extra performance of another cpu and memory?

4. Is it recomended or a huge percent better to have a server that does nothing but store the files and then use another for the site and script or should it all just be on one box because it doesnt matter?

5. If anyone cares to share how much storage and bandwidth per month were you using after having your site up and running for 6 months? and 1 year?

6. after i order how long till sibsoft will install for me on my box? same day? next day?

7. is a new version coming out soon with some new features, if so any details?

1. I recommend Core2Duo

2. 1 Gb should be enough I hope, but 2 will be better

3. It's easy to add new HDD or Server and start new FileServer there. Main server will be still in old plase working. No need to move anything.

4. For starting up it's fine to have 2-in-1

5. Definately recommend Unmetered packages

6. It depends. Next day is for sure.

7. New version is coming in Jul-Aug only.

1. understood so a quad will be better but not a huge leap?

2. and 3 better than 2 and 4 better than 3, but where is the sweet spot? is 2gb the sweet spot for costs or is it 3 or 4 or?

3. so i shouldnt worrry about this now correct?

4. ok thank you

5. it would be nice to see some real #s of where people were at both storage and bandwidth wise in a 6 month timeframe as well as a 1 year, i know this will be different case by case but a general idea would be nice.

6. great thank you

7. any word on what it adds or changes? is this just a minor update (like a 1.6) or a major overhaul (ie 2.0)

1. Yes. Core2Duo is best price-perfomance ratio

2. 2 is enough, 1 could be not.

3. correct

5. can't help you there

7. not planning huge changes, maybe 1-2 new mods and some slight improvements.

I have a question too: is the newest version's mysql structure different from 1.2 version? And if so, can I upgrade from my version without losing users files and the other stuff?
