caching ?

can memcached be used with xfs ? and would it help

my db keeps crashing, when i run latest downloads or anti hacker

It should not be crashing by itself. Consider mysql fine tuning.

As for memcached - question is still open. Not sure yet.

yes it shouldn't crash, but when i open those two pages; ip2file table gets locked as i have a couple of mil. entries in it

i was thinking to change the table format from myisam to innodb ; as it doesnt lock table

For fixing the crashing, update to newest stable mysql and run cron from shell atleast few times a day.

for backup without locking, use r1soft or replicate db, then backup from replicate.

And put your website on a CDN so you can get some load off the server.
