Encode direct links

#1 Postby komi » Dec 09, 2009 12:49 pm

If you have sanatize filenames turned off and have files with special characters in its name, the direct link does not work.
I came on the idea to encode the direct links, so all characters can be used.

"URL encoding converts characters into a format that can be safely transmitted over the Internet."

Examples:
space ---> %20
# ---> %23
$ ---> %24
% ---> %25
& ---> %26

See this for more info.

What do you think about it?

Weird you guys don't care about it while the problem still isn't fixed in 1.6, even on your demo site (upload-pro.com) the bug occurs.

What's your EXACT problem with these "unsafe" chars?
You browser declined these links or download not working or what?

Exactly. I'm using Firefox which is currently one of the most popular browsers. So, I think this is a pretty serious problem. Replacing characters in only the link what the other guy suggested, is probably more difficult than my suggestion.

I see absolutely no reason to delete these posts. It can only help improve your project.

Please give me link to files you have problems with. Better on our upload-pro.com site.
In my FF files with spaces were doing fine. Maybe you have some FF security extension?

http://upload-pro.com/8pqyk8v77awd for example.
I wasn't talking about the spaces, but about the special characters.
