none of those 2 are good for secure file storage

openvz works with maps that he assign to be a hard drive (virtual hard drive)

Xen works the same way (if i am not wrong)

XenServer (citrix) use partisions to store files , so that is more secure

problem with XenServer is that it need to be installed on the root as a own os , unlike the other 2 vps systems

then if you choose hypervm then i wish you good luck

hypervm got a few big security problems after the main dev gave his life up

so i would suggest solusvm then or a other like VePortal (they say that that last 1 is the best at this moment)

but its how you look at it and where you want to use it for

i use just a dedicated with centos on it and apache as my file server
nothing more is needed for me

but if you want to choose , then i would suggest to go for Xen
as Xen is more stable and doesnt allow you to oversell

only problem , Xen doesnt works always like you want it to work

it can give some big trouble if you do not have skills in linux

hopely this helps you

ps: if you want to know the positive and negative things about a few main vps softwares , please take a look at http://powerchaos.com/vps-servers

Just say no to virtualization.

Virtualization is a bad thing when you care about maximum performance and security, and is rarely needed on linux.

Xen or vmware will offer you 10% less IO performance than a naked machine, and they have horrible memory overhead for each client since another kernel needs to run per client.

Additionally, the default installs are not considered to be secure.

BSD Jails or OpenVZ are more IO efficient. Less virtualized, but more performance and less memory wasted on multiple copies of kernels.

Virtualization is good for:

- multiple Windows apps that have DLL dependencies and need isolation
- dev or test servers
- testing multiple versions of OS or apps on the same machine
- environments where politics or economics are more important than performance.

yes, dont use Virtualiztion for file sharing, better solution for limit cost is u can install opensource file storage such freenas or openfiles, u can ISCSI feauture for better perfomance than samba or nfs

MERDEKA!!!
